What services does Dr Yoong offer?
Working with patients in Westmead, Strathfield and Liverpool, Dr Yoong is able to provide medical support throughout pregnancy and to act as the delivering obstetrician during the birth of your child/ren.

Does Dr Yoong offer IVF or egg freezing?
While Dr Yoong can discuss the underlying causes of infertility or recurrent miscarriage, and order tests which may reveal important information, he is not an IVF specialist and will refer you to someone who is if he believes they can assist you on your journey to starting a family.
Dr Yoong does not currently offer egg freezing. Talk to him about referrals to an IVF clinic.
I have just found out I am pregnant. How soon do I need to see Dr Yoong?
Once your pregnancy has been confirmed by your GP, please call our office 02 9822 4553 to book an appointment. Generally, we will invite you for your first visit once you have reached the eight week mark, however, depending on your circumstances we may invite you to come in earlier.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
When you come to Dr Yoong for your first appointment, it is beneficial for you to bring the following:
- Your referral (if necessary)
- Your Medicare card
- Your health fund details (if you have one, otherwise Dr Yoong can provide the same service through Liverpool public hospital for you as a self funded private patient)
- Copies of past medical pathology and ultrasound scan results (if relevant)
- A list of current medications
How often will I see Dr Yoong during my pregnancy?
In general, Dr Yoong will see patients once per month during their pregnancy until the 28 – 30 week mark, then more frequently as you approach your due date. This may vary if you fall into the high-risk category.
What should I do if I have an emergency between appointments?
Please call our office during business hours if you are concerned about your pregnancy. Outside of working hours, or if we are unable to take your call, we recommend you go directly to the emergency department of your nearest hospital if you are experiencing pain or bleeding.
Does Dr Yoong offer scans/ultrasounds?
Dr Yoong will perform an ultrasound during each antenatal visit to check on the wellbeing of your baby/ies.
What is a Harmony Test? Can I request a Harmony Test through Dr Yoong?
Conducted at around 11 weeks of pregnancy, the Harmony Test is a non-invasive blood-test which screens for common genetic conditions including Down-Syndrome (trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) and Patau syndrome (trisomy 13). This test also provides the option to learn your baby’s gender at no extra charge.
The test requires a single blood draw, and can be done once you have completed 10 weeks’ gestation. Collecting your blood sample for NIPT poses no threat to your baby and can be requested as part of your care with Dr Yoong.
What will happen if Dr Yoong cannot be present to deliver my baby?
While Dr Yoong makes every attempt to be the obstetrician who delivers your baby and only works with a limited number of clients at a time, due to the unpredictable nature of babies’ arrivals there is the rare occasion where this is not possible.
In the event of Dr Yoong being unable to attend to your delivery due to unforeseen circumstances, he will be backed up by another specialist obstetrician who has a similar style of practice.
Can I request a caesarean delivery?
Dr Yoong’s priority is the safe arrival of your baby. During the course of your pregnancy, he will discuss with you the best option for delivery.
Will Dr Yoong perform my c-section?
As a fully qualified surgeon, Dr Yoong is able to perform caesarean section deliveries with his patients’ consent.
Which hospital can I deliver my baby in?
You will have round the clock access to Dr Yoong as his private obstetrics client with the support of the friendly and caring midwifery staff in the hospital of your choice.
When engaging Dr Yoong as your obstetrician, you can select to deliver your baby in a public or private hospital. The hospitals Dr Yoong works from include:
- Liverpool Hospital
- Sydney Southwest Private
- Westmead Private Hospital
Will I see Dr Yoong after I have delivered my baby?
Most patients have one or two follow-up appointments after the arrival of their baby to touch base in regards to their postpartum health.
How much do Dr Yoong’s services cost?
The cost of an obstetrician is partially covered by private health care. When you arrive for your first appointment, the costs involved and standard payment requirements will be explained to you.
Do I need to have a hysterectomy if I am suffering from heavy periods?
Dr Yoong will go through your history and scan thoroughly to assess and recommend various options for reducing the impact of heavy periods. This can include different medical treatments, minor surgical procedure or radiological intervention, depending on which best suits your condition and circumstances. Often a hysterectomy can be avoided and this procedure is reserved as a last option when other treatments fail.
What happens when I have an abnormal Pap Test result?
The cervical screening test now detects the presence of Human Papilloma Virus, which is responsible for the pre-cancerous changes in the cells of the cervix. If the results of your test are abnormal, your GP will refer you to a gynaecologist like Dr Yoong, who will perform a colposcopy to will help identify these changes on the cervix.
A minor procedure called large loop excision of the transformation zone or cone biopsy will be offered if an abnormality is found. Dr Yoong will explain everything that is involved with the procedure during your initial consultation and will take the time to answer any questions you may have.
